Ecclesia orans: 30 Years Service to Liturgical Science

Abstract
This article highlights the unique character of Ecclesia orans from the time of its origins in the heart of the Pontifical Liturgical Institute thirty years ago and how it has developed during that time. Ecclesia orans has consistently been dedicated to the service of Liturgical Science and to the reform of the Liturgy begun by Vatican Council II. These two dimensions of its service are clear in the happy coincidence of two anniversaries: 30 years of Ecclesia orans and 50 years since the promulgation of the Council’s Constitution on the Liturgy, Sacrosanctum concilium. The kind of review that Ecclesia orans has wanted to be has been clear from the beginning: it publishes articles of a high scientific quality because, as its first director Fr Adrien Nocent, OSB, loved to say, the scientific study of the liturgy is a vital contribution to all pastoral reflection.

Il presente contributo mette in rilievo il carattere proprio della rivista Ecclesia orans, a partire dalla sua nascita in seno al Pontificio Istituto Liturgico e dal suo sviluppo nel corso dei suoi 30 anni di vita, spesi al servizio della Scientia liturgica e della riforma promossa dal Concilio vaticano II. Queste sue peculiarità sono evidenziate rilevando la felice coincidenza che mette insieme due importanti ricorrenze che interessano l’ambito liturgico: i 30 anni di vita della rivista e il 50° anniversario della promulgazione della Costituzione liturgica Sacrosanctum concilium. Chiara la linea che sin dalle origini ha voluto caratterizzare ciascun numero della rivista: accogliere contributi che avessero un taglio prettamente scientifico, perché, come amava sottolineare il primo direttore P. Adrien Nocent, osb, lo studio scientifico della liturgia resta un importante contributo per fondare anche la riflessione pastorale.
